Michigan Plumber Licensing FAQs

How to Get a Michigan Journeyman Plumber License

  1. Meet the minimum experience requirements:
    1. Be at least 18 years of age
    2. Have at least 6,000 hours experience (over 3 or more years) as a registered plumbing apprentice
  2. Complete and submit an application for examination/licensure
  3. Take and pass your exam*
  4. Pay the license fee

*Effective in 2022 Journey Plumber applicants will be required to take a two-part examination, both a written and skills portion.

Applicants whose applications are received December 15, 2021 or later will be required to pass both portions.
