Description

2018 IPC Part 2

Instructor: Randy Drake

This course is designed to provide an overview of the following chapters in the 2018 International Plumbing Code. This course satisfies the Colorado State Plumbing Board requirement for code related course work.

This Course Covers:

2018 International Plumbing Code

  • IPC Chapter 9 – Vents

  • PC Chapter 11 – Storm Drainage

Introduction to Fire Sprinklers, Valves, and Hydraulic Calculations

Instructor: Karl Wiegand

This course is an introduction to the basics regarding fire sprinklers, valves and hydraulic calculations. Students will become familiar with the parts of a sprinkler assembly and the significance of sprinkler orientation. Next they will learn the basics of sprinkler system valves and the types of systems they service. Finally, hydraulic calculations are discussed as they relate to water supply, water flow and friction loss.

This Course Covers:

  • Sprinkler basics
  • Parts of the sprinkler
  • Sprinkler orientation
  • Types of sprinklers, valves, & sprinkler systems
  • Setting air pressure
  • Water delivery
  • Water pressure
  • Water supply and flow
  • Friction loss
  • Internal pipe diameter
  • Examples of calculations

Hot Work

Instructor:  Nelson Gelinas

Hot work is any activity or process that creates flames, generates sparks, or heat, and includes welding, grinding, cutting, brazing etc, and any similar applications producing or using sparks, flame or heat. The risk with hot work is high because it introduces a hazard—an ignition source. This course will focus on the various steps to take to ensure hot work is performed in a safe manner.

This Course Covers:

  • Hot Work Permit
  • Personal Protective Equipment
  • Fire Watch
  • Tank Storage
  • Hot Work Area
  • Other Common Hazards
  • Hexavalent Chromium

NFPA 13D Basics Layout

Instructor: Karl Wiegand

This course is an introduction to the basics of NFPA 13D sprinkler systems. Students will become familiar with sprinkler protection standards, system components, system types, system layout, and design area.

After completing this course participants will be able to:

  • Understand sprinkler system protection standards.
  • Install residential sprinkler systems correctly and safely.
  • Layout systems for residential applications.
  • Calculate the hydraulic demand on a system.

This Course Covers:

  • Sprinkler protection standards
  • System components
  • Dry and preaction systems
  • System layout
  • Sprinkler layout
  • Listed design area rules
  • Hydraulic demand

First Calculation for NFPA 13D Systems

Instructor: Karl Wiegand

This course is the first calculation for NFPA 13D systems. Students will become familiar with calculating pressure loss from friction, the friction loss equation, and calculating water flow.

After completing this course participants will be able to:

  • Calculate pressure loss from friction.
  • Determine correct pipe length for an effective system.
  • Ensure adequate water flow for a residential sprinkler system.
  • Understand the requriements for NFPA 13D systems.
